Meet the Family is the 3rd episode in the series.
Plot synopsis Edit
In which Dr. Karma becomes so troubled he hallucinates an entire and unlikely multi-racial and diverse of origin family that lives all over the US and communicates with him via his laptop. The family is generally supportive, but not always. For instance they hate his susceptibility to crazy nurse. At the end of the episode, he realizes stoner nurse slipped something into his drink. Or at least he thinks so. BUT the writers never make it clear that the hallucinations go completely away or that Doc Karma stopped believing in the family. In fact, throughout the show we see Dr. Karma take his laptop and write a note to "the family" often starting with "Dear aunties" or "dear sis". These and the CGI effects used to bring these people on stage during this episode are some of my favorite parts of the show.
- Character 1
- Character 2
Notes & trivia Edit
- Whichever writer made up the family is a genius. Among other unlikely characters, Dr. Karma is gifted with several imaginary writer aunties, a nurse sister, an auntie who is -- of all things -- a custom designer, and the politically savvy uncle. Not your average imaginary family, but highly entertaining, particularly when it's obvious the fights between imaginary characters disturb Doctor Karma.
- Due to the underground and geurilla nature of the production of this series, there was fan interaction with creators from the start. The writers, thankful for feedback from already-rabid fans, did this episode as a tribute, and fans quickly dubbed it "The Most Meta TV Episode Ever". Debates still occur over which "Family member" is which fan, and what Doc Karma actually thinks of his extended "family".
